Matt popped the question on a beautiful secluded beach in Ko Tao, Thailand. Sarah said yes – of course, and nine months later they married just up the road from their home in Brighton.
As a super sociable couple they were always going to have a big wedding – two hundred guests came to see them get married, and it was, Sarah says, the best day of their lives.
With such a big wedding to plan, the couple needed a simple solution for their gift list.
“As with many couples, we’d lived together for a few years before we got married, and had everything we needed. Patchwork was ideal for our wedding gift list as we were able to list a variety of ideas, rather than using one specific retailer website.”
Sarah and Matt asked for contributions towards their honeymoon – a romantic trip to Cornwall. They split the trip up into activities and experiences that their friends and family could fund.
“Our family and friends’ kind contributions paid for pre-dinner cocktails, lunch in Padstow, wine to accompany our meal at Jamie’s Fifteen restaurant, bike hire so we could cycle along the Camel Trail, tickets to the Eden Project, wine tasting at the nearby vineyard, and surfing lessons.”
Matt and Sarah loved the experience of being on their honeymoon and knowing that all of their wedding guests had helped them get there.
“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our guests, it felt so special to enjoy our gifts, on our honeymoon as newly-weds. The variety of gifts we enjoyed everyday were reminders of how kind people had been.”
The couple’s friends loved how personal the gift giving was – knowing they were giving them something that was really appreciated.
“We sent pictures of each of the activities to our friends and family who had given us each present. They loved getting to see their gifts in action!”
And would Matt and Sarah recommend staying closer to home for your honeymoon? Absolutely!
“We’d definitely recommend Cornwall as a honeymoon destination. The scenery is stunning, the food is sublime and you won’t suffer from jet lag!”
It sounds perfect. Thank you for sharing your story with us, and congratulations from Team Patchwork.
