It’s just over a year since gay marriage finally became legal in the UK, and with lots of lovely gay couples now making patchworks on our site every day, we thought we’d celebrate by sharing some honeymoon inspiration from our friends at Further Afield.
Further Afield is an independent collection of boutique hotels, B&Bs and holiday homes, all of which welcome everyone: straight or gay.
We had a look through the brilliant ‘gay honeymoons’ section on their site and after way too much deliberation (they all look SO good) we picked a few of our favourites:

The Boathouse in Perthshire, Scotland
“Amidst the beauty of highland Perthshire, the cottage sits in it’s own 50 acres which sweep down to the water’s edge of Loch Tay. Surrounded by wonderful flora and fauna, including a family of rare red squirrels, this is the place to relax and unwind.”

38 Loader Street, Cape Town, South Africa
“The stunning panorama of Table Mountain and the ocean while you sip a beer on the rooftop terrace of this two bedroomed cottage is worth travelling around the world for. A relaxing gem in the midst of the coolest gay scene in Cape Town, this cottage is worth discovering.”

Modern Houseboat, Berlin, Germany
“For a unique city stay, you can’t get much cooler than the Modern Houseboat, moored on Lake Rummelsburg in central Berlin. This minimalist design dream offers relaxing accommodation surrounded by nature but with spectacular views of – and access to – the city.”

Above Blue Suites, Santorini, Greece
“A top-notch cluster of uber elegant and private gay friendly hotel suites scattered across a steep rocky slope of the island’s famous caldera (volcano). Stunning views out to the Aegean sea and the opportunity to soak up one of the world’s most famous sunsets make this the ultimate romantic gay travel experience.”

The Tree Hotel, Lapland, Sweden
“Sleep in style and comfort in a specially designed cabin high in the trees. Great design & style, environmental awareness and raw nature are all things that Sweden is well known for besides ABBA, IKEA and Volvo. The Tree Hotel manages to successfully marry all these elements into truly unique accommodation.”
Hopefully you’ve found something that inspires you – if you want to see more of their gay friendly honeymoon recommendations, head over to our Further Afield patchwork collection.
