Vanessa & Henry’s Adventure Honeymoon

When Vanessa and Henry were planning their wedding, they decided to ‘trade the more traditional wedding list of household items’ and instead find a way to collect the equivalent funds to put towards an overseas adventure and kickstart their married life.

“As we knew people are still hesitant about parting with money as opposed to buying a gift, we really had to think creatively about how to make this part of the wedding a success. So we chose the most attractive site we could find, Patchwork. It was new, it was fun, it gave the user a real sense of the experience and most importantly, it was easy. Through clicking on the patchwork our guests felt happy with what they were buying into as opposed to simply handing over cash or transferring money directly into our accounts.”

Vanessa and Henry had a beautiful winter wedding and then packed their shorts, sunglasses (and crash helmets) for a hot, honeymoon adventure in Namibia – funded entirely by their guests.Sending photo updates all the way meant friends and family could continue to be part of Henry and Vanessa’s journey and was a way for the newlyweds to share their love and thanks. On their return Vanessa told us: “Our friends all seemed really happy to donate in this way, even the older lot managed it without any glitches! We would recommend this alternative gift list in a shot, everyone loved the idea and we only wish we could do it all again.”
